BCCI sued over naming IPL robot dog ‘Champak’

According to the publisher’s lawyer, Advocate Amit Gupta, the use of the Champak name—long associated with its popular magazine and animal characters—has been done without permission and is damaging their brand.

Gupta responded that using a nickname isn’t the same as launching a product, which is where commercial exploitation could apply.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) climbed to ₹1,264 crore, reflecting a 27.8 percent increase from ₹989 crore in the corresponding period of 2024. However, the EBITDA margin slightly decreased to 22.70 percent from 22.90 percent. Total expenses for the quarter amounted to ₹4,730 crore, up from ₹3,690 crore in the prior year.

The company’s revenue from operations also demonstrated robust growth, reaching ₹5,567 crore, a 29 percent rise from the ₹4,317 crore reported in the first quarter of the previous year.

So far, tech companies with online ad businesses have generally reported robust first-quarter earnings. However, several have cautioned about potential headwinds later in the year, suggesting a cautious outlook for the advertising market.
