MIB updates Parliamentary Committee on cable TV industry issues

In response to concerns raised by the Standing Committee on channel pricing and bundling by broadcasters. The MIB has forwarded the issue to TRAI, which is currently reviewing potential regulatory adjustments.

In its Fifty-Sixth Report, the Parliamentary committee noted that multiple Acts, rules, and guidelines currently regulate the cable TV industry, along with multiple regulatory bodies, including the MIB, TRAI, and DoT.

The cable operators’ association has also written to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), urging it to direct these OTT platforms to restrict the transmission of live channels.

TRAI appoints two whole time members

The Central Government will now review TRAI’s recommendations before finalising the regulations under the Telecommunications Act, 2023.
