MIB meets stakeholders on regulating UGC on social media under broadcast services bill

Most of the companies collected users' age, gender, and the language they spoke. Many platforms also obtained information on education, income, and marital status.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting held a meeting with the stakeholders including Spotify, Google, Netflix and FICCI, on July 9 to discuss the purview of the broadcast services bill w.r.t. social media news content. It has requested feedback and comments within three weeks on the latest version of the bill.

TRAI releases consultation paper on framework for providing telecom service through authorisation

The consultation paper follows a reference from the Department of Telecom sent to the TRAI on June 21 to provide recommendations on terms and conditions, including fees, for authorisations to provide telecom services as per the provisions of the Telecommunications Act, 2023.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has released the draft Right of Way (RoW) rules under the Telecommunications Act 2023. This aims to streamline procedures and ensure efficient deployment of telecommunication infrastructure.

MIB issues advisory on provisioning of satellite capacity on non- Indian satellites

All Access Providers have been directed to comply with these directives and submit regular updates on the actions taken on the 1st and 16th of every month.

Beyond March 31, 2025, only satellites authorised by IN-SPACe can provide space-based communication and broadcast services in India, and any new or additional capacity must comply with the authorisation requirements.
