OTT communication apps, including WhatsApp and Telegram, are facing pressure from telcos and advertisers over spam-related risks.

The new 160xxxxxxx number series allotted by the Department of Telecommunications will not only help crack down on unsolicited telemarketer calls using 10-digit mobile numbers, but enable consumers differentiate service/transactional calls versus other types of calls.
