The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today announced a second extension for stakeholders to submit comments on the pre-consultation paper concerning the formulation of the “National Broadcasting Policy.” Initially released on September 21, 2023, the original deadline for receiving comments was October 10, 2023. In response to stakeholder requests, this date was extended to October 31, 2023. Now, considering additional requests, TRAI has further extended the deadline to November 7, 2023, emphasizing that no further extension requests will be entertained.

TRAI has allowed the extension in a bid to gather comprehensive feedback from stakeholders that would help in a holistic policy formulation.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has previously stressed the importance of the National Broadcasting Policy in articulating a vision for a robust broadcasting sector that showcases India’s cultural diversity, heritage, and supports the nation’s transition to a digital and empowered economy. A National Broadcasting Policy, outlining the vision, mission, strategies, and action points, is seen as a critical step to guide the development and growth of the broadcasting sector, especially in the context of new and emerging technologies.
