Note to readers: Storyboard18’s Share The Spotlight aims to highlight inspirational stories of women who continue breaking barriers and setting the precedent for other women marketers, entrepreneurs and communication specialists.
The initiative aims to kick off a movement where people from across these communities step up and share their spotlight with other women. They could be women in their team or any other team, a new group or previous one, from a past workplace or the current one.
Share The Spotlight calls on us all to come out and share words of praise and encouragement for each other, appreciating and acknowledging the contributions of so many people who make businesses, brands and workplaces better. Learn and understand how to face challenges and seize opportunities while bringing along others on the path to progress.
This is just the beginning of a long journey to spotlight individuals who are empowering others and bringing change and growth for all. Together we rise.
In Rubeena Singh’s 22-year stint in media, she considers her highs to be more than the lows. Singh highlights her ability to strike a perfect balance between meeting the demands of her professional life, and making time for her family as her biggest achievement. She mentions, “The fact that I have been able to bring up my 10- year-old daughter with the right set of values, discipline and affection amidst my busy schedule is indeed my biggest accomplishment. I hope to continue taking that to new highs.”
Singh, who started her career in 2000 at Star India as a manager, took up the role of a country manager at AnyMind Group, a technology company headquartered in Singapore, this year in January. Currently, she is in charge of leading the operations for India and MENA regions.
Singh spent a period of 12 years at Network18 Media & Investments. She has been a regional manager at CNBC Awaaz, a senior vice president for Forbes India and Forbes Life India, and has been a chief operating officer at Moneycontrol. Further, she also held positions at Dentsu Group-owned media company iProspect, and at video-sharing social networking service Josh.
Singh has always pushed for changes in policy and hiring which has highlighted her deep-rooted interest in diversity. While Singh claims to have made great progress at junior levels with respect to diversity, her biggest regret has been the inability to implement diversity at senior leadership levels. “I guess, it’s still a work in progress and I don’t intend to give up on this goal just yet,” she adds.
During her stint as the chief executive officer at iProspect India, Singh initiated the Women@iProspect initiative which allowed in-house talent to grow and excel as the future leaders of the industry.
When Singh had started out as a rookie in the ad sales team at Star TV, she derived inspiration from her senior Shanti Rao who juggled the pressures of a demanding sales job with meeting the needs of her family, which included looking after two young children.
Singh mentions how Rao not only mentored her juniors but also made time to party with her colleagues.
